Shopify Store Getting Traffic but No Sales? Six Things to Check
Traffic without sales is frustrating, and the fix is rarely “more traffic.” In most stores it is one or two specific gaps between the visitor arriving and the order completing. Work through these in order.
1. Is the offer clear in five seconds?
Open your store on a phone and look at the first screen. Can a stranger tell what you sell, who it is for and why they should buy from you? If not, fix that before anything else.
2. Does the store look trustworthy?
First-time visitors look for signals that a store is real: genuine reviews, clear return and shipping policies, an about page, contact details and secure checkout. Missing policies and empty review sections cost sales.
3. Is the product page doing its job?
Good product pages show clear photos from several angles, a benefit-led description, price and delivery information, and a visible add-to-cart button without scrolling on mobile. Answer the questions a buyer would ask in a shop.
4. Is the site fast on mobile?
Test your key pages with Google PageSpeed Insights and on a real phone. Oversized images and too many apps are the usual causes of slow stores.
5. Where do people drop off?
Check Shopify analytics for the funnel: sessions, add-to-cart, reached checkout, purchased. Few add-to-carts points at the product page or the offer. Many abandoned checkouts point at shipping costs, surprise fees or payment options.
6. Is the traffic the right traffic?
Visitors who were never likely to buy will not convert on any page. Check which sources and which ads or keywords send the visitors who do add to cart, and put your effort there.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good conversion rate for a Shopify store?
It varies by product, price and traffic source, so compare your store against its own history rather than a single benchmark. What matters is whether it improves after each change.
Should I run more ads if I have no sales?
Usually not yet. More traffic to a page that does not convert mostly increases cost. Fix the biggest gap first.
